中国古代浙东重要港口。位于今浙江省宁波市，当甬江两大源流姚江、奉化江汇流处，北距入海口20余公里。港口内依三江，外濒东海，舟山群岛罗列东北，四明山脉屏障西南，水深港阔，航道畅通，是浙东水陆交通枢纽。早在汉元鼎六年（公元前111）,宁波港已有舟师活动。唐、宋时期发展为海外贸易和造船中心。明洪武二年(1369)，因沿海一带常遭倭寇侵扰，朱元璋下令禁止"通蕃下海"，屯兵戍守宁波，港口长期处于闭港、半闭港状态。清道光二十一年(1841),英军侵占宁波,次年，英国强迫清政府签订《南京条约》，宁波港列为通商口岸。今宁波港包括宁波老港、镇海和北仑三个港区。
