分布产云南东南部马关、麻栗坡，生于针阔叶混交林中。浙江昌化、安徽黄山、福建武夷山、江西武功山、湖南莽山、广东乳源、广西兴安、贵州中部有分布。

生境分布区地跨中亚热带至北热带。气候温凉湿润，冬暖夏凉，雨量充沛，云雾重，湿度大。年均温11℃左右，年降水量2000毫米，平均相对湿度85。土壤为乌色红黄壤，pH值5.4，酸性肥沃深厚土壤。
