植物形态：一年生直立、粗状草本，高达1.5米。茎圆柱形，表面光滑，灰白色，上部灰绿色，二叉状分枝，幼枝略带紫色。叶互生，上部常呈对生状，卵形至广卵形，长9~18厘米，先端渐尖，基部不等边，表面乳绿色，背面淡绿色，两面均秃净，边缘微波状，或作不规则的浅裂。花白色，单生在枝叉间或叶腋间，花萼圆筒状，长4~6厘米，宽约2厘米，开放时呈喇叭状，5裂，雄蕊5枚，子房上位，2室，表面生短刺。蒴果扁圆形，有粗短刺。 生态分布：花、叶、种子入药，夏秋采收。 用途：性味辛、温，有大毒。叶和种子为麻醉性镇咳、镇痛剂。干叶掺烟叶中吸之，可治喘咳；其浸剂，对痉挛性咳嗽，喘息，慢性支气管炎咳嗽有效。花瓣有镇静、镇痛作用，可治神经痛。用时宜慎凡体虚弱者忌用。亦有用其根治狂犬咬伤。用量：花3~5分。
