【来源】
为姜科植物桂莪术Curcuam kwangsiensis S.G.Leset C.F.Liang的根茎。
【植物形态】
多年生草本，高50～110cm。叶片4～7，二列，长椭圆形，长8～13cm；樱部苞片长椭圆形，先端粉红色至淡紫色，腋内无花，中下部苞片卵圆形，淡绿色，腋内有花2至数朵；萼筒白色；花冠近漏斗状，长约2.5cm，花瓣3，粉红色，长圆形，上方一片较大，先端成兜状；微生退化雄蕊形态与花瓣相似，淡黄色。花期4～9月。 生于向阳山坡地、沟边、林缘，野生或栽培。主产广西。
【性状】
根茎长圆形或长卵形，长3.5～7cm，直径1.5～3cm，基部圆钝，顶端钝尖。表面黄棕色至灰色，光滑，环节明显或不见，有点状须根痕或残留须根，两侧各有一列下陷的芽痕和根茎痕。质坚重。气香、味微苦辛。
【化学成分】
含挥发油，油中含a-蒎烯、莰烯、蒎烯、柠檬烯、1-8-桉油素、a-松油烯、芳樟醇、龙脑、樟脑、乙酸芳樟酯、丁香酚等。
【性味】
性温，味苦、辛。
【功能主治】
见莪术。
