性质:液晶的一类。根据液晶的生成条件,可把它分为两类:热致液晶和溶致液晶(lyotropic liquid crystal)。其中,把物质加热到其熔点或玻璃化温度以上形成的液晶叫热致液晶。某些有机小分子化合物(如胆甾醇酯类)和某些高分子化合物(如聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯与对乙酰氧基苯甲酸熔融缩聚制得的共聚酯等)均为热致液晶。热致液晶有着广泛的应用前景。20世纪80年代后期发展起来的液晶高分子原位复合材料(in-situ composite)就是热致液晶高分子的应用实例之一。
