      中国佛教密宗祖庭。隋唐著名译经馆。位于今陕西西安市大兴善寺公园内。唐时为长安城内靖善坊。隋开皇元年(581),文帝普诏天下,听任出家,广做佛事,大兴佛教。二年,移都南顿,敕令迁陟岵寺于新都"九五贵位"之地,重建为国寺。隋文帝在北周时原为大兴郡公,因以"大兴"命名。据《长安志》记载:寺建成后,崇广为京城之最,制度与太庙同。第一位寺主是与文帝为布衣之交的灵藏,兼领昭玄都。隋代住在寺内的有昭玄大统僧猛、继任昭玄统昙延及其随员等,协同王朝处理全国僧尼事务。开皇七年,召慧远、慧藏、僧休、宝镇、洪遵、昙迁等入京为"六大德",并有僧众300余人入寺供养,令其为国行道。建寺同时即创设译经馆,先后有那连提黎耶舍、阇那崛多、达摩笈多、彦琮等为主译,所出约占隋代译经总数半数以上。唐贞观三年(629),太宗令以波颇为主,于寺内译经。译馆所需令百司供给。天宝十五载(756),著名密教高僧不空住寺,为玄宗、肃宗、代宗三朝帝师,封赐优厚。唐武宗禁佛时,寺院损毁严重。五代几不闻于世,宋代稍有修葺。清顺治五年(1648),僧人麸斋筹款大修。康熙二十三年(1684)川陕总督平安纳又率文武官僚施资大修,历十余年始竣工。1945年,太虚法师等于寺内创设世界佛学苑巴利学院。1955年,政府拨款全面大修。有殿堂五进,配以廊庑僧寮,规模为西安今存众刹之首。
