| 喀什市 中国新疆南部政治、经济、文化中心，农牧产品最大集散地。位于新疆维吾尔自治区西南缘，塔里木盆地西部。面积96平方千米。1990年人口22.5万。有维吾尔、汉、回、乌孜别克、柯尔克孜、塔吉克等17个民族，其中维吾尔族人口占74.8％。公元前2世纪，为西域36国之一的疏勒国都城，归属西汉。唐高宗显庆三年（658），以其为安西四镇之一，是当时西域第一年由疏附县部分地区析置喀什市个军事重要镇。公元9世纪末～12世纪初，喀什为突厥人所建的喀喇汗王朝的都城，并成为在新疆传播伊斯兰教的第一个基地。寺光绪十年（1884）喀什设疏附县。隶属疏勒直隶州。1953。“喀什”系维吾尔语，意为玉石集中地。1988年列入国家第二批历史文化名城。处于山前冲积平原上，克孜勒苏河、吐鲁河流经市境南部和北部。气候干旱少雨，年均降水量70毫米，年均温11.7℃，1月均温－7℃，7月均温25℃。农牧业发达，农作物有棉花、小麦、水稻、糜子、胡麻等。产上百种水果，素称瓜果之乡。喀什工业近年有较大发展，主要有纺织、农机、皮革、食品加工、制盐、酿酒等。传统民族工业有维吾尔族小花帽、地毯、小刀等，做工精细、古朴风雅、质地优良，远销国内外。矿产资源有铜、石油等。名胜古迹有艾提尕尔清真寺、喀什巴札及英尔古佛塔、艾斯克沙尔古城遗址、三仙洞、香妃墓等。
