炼丹炉在南峰西北孝子峰。相传为太上老君炼制金丹的地方，故峰又称丹峰。旧有庙宇建筑，但规模较小，庙前设有铁制丹炉一座，氢《三才图会》载，“炉径丈余，高可六尺。”《玄怪录》中所载的浪子杜子春丹房奇遇的神话故事即发生于此。原庙宇建筑毁于文化革命时，铁制丹炉也被推入沟壑。现规模宏伟，风格别致的庙宇建筑为一九八八年重造。今庙前石雕丹炉，径三尺，高丈余，刻工精美，风格古朴。庙宇四围多五角红枫，每当秋深霜浓时节，片片红叶与丹炉相映成趣，景中有情，情中有景。且此处南望，又是观金龟朝三公的最佳位置，游人常于此留连忘返，驻足不前。明时王来宾有《炼丹炉》诗： 外药原来与内同，仙人炼气此岩中。千年丹灶依然在，一窍能通造化工。
