用磨料和结合剂制成的块状固结磨具。砂瓦大多数用刚玉或碳化硅磨料和树脂结合剂制成，也有少量用陶瓷或菱苦土结合剂制造的，通常是数块砂瓦固定在砂轮夹盘上镶装成组合体后使用(图1)，每块砂瓦之间一般有一定间隔，便于散热和排屑。砂瓦主要用在立轴磨床上粗磨金属工件的大平面，也用于石材和水磨石地面的磨光。由于装夹方式不同，砂瓦的形状也不一样，按横断面形状可分为平形（矩形）、扇形、平凸形和梯形砂瓦等（图2）。
