中国化工学会的前身组成部分之一。由陈世璋（聘丞）、俞同奎两教授发起，1922年 4月23日在北京成立，会长张新吾。由于当时时局动荡，会务不易展开，总会于1928年末迁至上海。1937年吴蕴初捐赠会所后，学术活动日益活跃。抗日战争期间迁往重庆，胜利后又迁回上海。1956年夏，中华化学工业会和中国化学工程学会代表商定成立中国化工学会筹备组，1957年3月3日，中华化学工业会结束活动。自1922～1957年，共召开年会21次。1923年在北京创刊《中华化学工业会会志》，内容以调查报告为主，总会迁至上海后改名《化学工业》，内容以研究论文为主，共出21卷45期。1950年《化学工业》与《化学工程》合并为《化学工业与工程》。1952年停止出版,1936年受国民党政府教育部委托,完成《化学工程名词草案》，后又参加审订化学名词工作。1947年成立技术服务部，为工商界提供咨询。1949年在原有图书基础上积极筹备化工图书馆，先后收集到各种文种图书共一万余册。1956年，这些图书献给上海市人民政府，并与中国科学社的明复图书馆合并成上海市科技图书馆。1946年创刊《化学世界》，普及化学、化工知识，提倡综合利用，推广工业分析。其中第8卷第7期是中国化工文摘专辑,摘录1921～1945年的化工论文,分为22类，共481条,提供中国化工早期研究的概况。后又编辑中国化学家、化学工程师对于现代化学、化工的贡献，共23分支，分载50期259页，引用文献3436条，历时5年。
