   土壤在水的浸润和冲击作用下,结构发生破碎和松散,随水流动而散失的现象。水土流失按时期可分为人类出现以前的水土流失和人类时期的水土流失。后者是在前者形成的侵蚀地貌基础上,在人类活动下发生演变而成的。水土流失按动力又可分为雨失、径流冲失和重力流失。①雨失。雨滴冲击地面,使土壤破碎、分离、飞溅而流失。②径流冲失。降雨或融雪产生的径流对土壤的破坏和引起的流失。③重力流失。在水参与下,土壤由于重力作用而发生陷落、地滑、滑塌等现象。

   水土流失的形态通常分为面失、沟失、塌失和泥石流4类。①面失。指分散的地表径流引起土壤发生的面状流失。②沟失。集中的水流破坏土壤、切入地面形成冲沟的流失。③塌失。在各种水土流失的作用下,由于重力而引发的土壤塌落、滑塌、泻溜或甚至堕石、山崩等。④泥石流。水土流失发展严重地区,大量固体物质在重力和水流冲力的综合作用下形成的洪流。水土流失的程度受地形、坡度、坡长、坡形、坡向的影响。气象诸因素、土壤性状等也是重要的影响因素。但在人类活动下,尤其是不合理的垦殖和森林破坏是引起水土流失的更为重要的因素。水土流失造成土壤肥力降低,水、旱灾害频繁发生,河道淤塞,地下水位下降,农田、道路和建筑物被破坏,环境质量变劣和生态平衡遭到破坏。
