性质:一种复杂的氧化物矿物。斜方晶系。晶粒呈粒状、块状、放射状、晶簇状,表面光滑,铁黑色至褐黑色。莫氏硬度4.2~7,密度5.37~7.85 g/cm3,性脆,有弱磁性,一般含五氧化二铌23%~70%,五氧化二钽1%~40%。主产于花岗伟晶岩矿中,与石英、长石、白云母、锂云母、绿柱石、黄玉、锆石、独居石等共生。为提取铌和钽的重要矿物原料。
