释道庄。杨州建业人。游践经史听习玄论。皆会其标诣。而仪止弘雅立性滔然。故少为同伦所尚。初听彭城寺琼法师。禀受成实。宗匠师表门学所推。琼后年疾相侵。将欲传绪。通召学徒宗猷顾命。众咸揖谢于庄。允当遗寄。琼曰。庄公学业优奥。诚如弘选。理副诸望。用光于后。然其首大足小。终无后成。恐其徙辙余宗耳。遂不行众议。庄后果鄙小乘归崇大法。从兴皇朗法师。听酌四论。一闻神悟挺慧孤超。后入内道场时声法鼓。一寺荣望无不预筵。咨谒前疑披解无滞年德既富皆敬而推焉。帝昔处蕃。致书礼问。诗论嘉篇每令扣击。词采丰逸屡动人心。末又追入京师。住日严寺。频蒙谒见酬抗新叙。引处宫围令其讲授。言悟清华玄儒总萃。皆叹其博要也。晚出曲池日严本室。又讲法华。直叙纲致不存文句。著疏三卷。皆风骨雅趣。师者众焉。炀帝初临以庄留连风雅道味所流。赐帛五百段毡四十领。随驾东指。因疾而卒于洛阳。时年八十一矣。即大业之初也。有集数十卷多在淮南。少流北壤。
