      成分为(┩ Ca,Na)0.33(Mg,Fe)3(Si,Al)4O10(OH)2·4H2O、晶体为单斜晶系的层状结构硅酸盐矿物。属蒙皂石(Smectite)族。皂石以成分中含二价的 Mg2+、Fe2+、Zn2+为主与成分中含三价的 Al3+为主的蒙脱石相区别。蒙皂石族矿物的一个重要特征是结构单元层间充填了水分子和可交换性的阳离子,并能吸附有机分子。皂石常呈肥皂状的块体。白色或浅黄、浅灰绿、浅红、浅蓝色。柔软可塑、可切割、有滑感。干燥时性脆。解理完全。摩斯硬度1,比重2.24~2.30。产于蛇纹岩中,也见于玄武岩或辉绿岩的孔穴内。蒙皂石族矿物可在石油提炼和纺织品生产中作杂质的吸附剂,在橡胶、肥皂、化妆品及造纸生产中作填料,在钻探中用作泥浆等。
