      在水冷式发动机的冷却水中添加防冻剂配制成的低冰点冷却液体。当气温低于0℃时,使用防冻液可防止因冷却水结冰而引起的冷却系统故障和零件胀裂事故,还可免除收车后放水和出车前再加水等工作。
  
  对防冻液性能的要求是:沸点和闪点高;比热和传导能力大,在低温时粘度小,蒸汽压不高,不易起泡;不致使冷却系统金属件腐蚀和橡胶软管、密封垫变质。
  
  防冻液一般分乙醇-水型、甘油-水型和乙二醇-水型三种。乙醇的冰点为-114℃,沸点为78.3℃。乙醇易着火,易蒸发,配制时其含量一般不宜超过40%,也不宜在工作温度较高的柴油机冷却系统中使用。甘油(丙三醇)的冰点为-17℃,沸点为290℃,与水混合后的冰点最低可达-46.5℃。水中甘油的含量要相当大时才能得到低冰点防冻液,使用起来不经济。乙二醇的冰点为-11.5℃沸点为197.4℃,与水混合后的冰点最低可达-68℃。乙二醇易腐蚀金属,调配防冻液时要添加防蚀剂,一般每升防冻液加磷酸氢二钠2.5~3.5克、糊精 1克。乙二醇吸湿性强,贮存容器应密封。乙二醇不易挥发,配制时用量少,因而使用较广。各种防冻液的热膨胀性较大,加注时只能加到冷却系总容量的95%。调配防冻液时,其冰点应比使用地区的最低温度低5℃。
