聚苯醚的化学名称聚2，6-二甲基-1,4-苯醚，是由2，6二甲酚在催化剂存在下聚合而得。相对密度1．06，玻璃化温度210℃，结晶熔融温度217℃，分解温度350 ℃，脆性温度-170℃，使用温度-l60～190℃。拉伸强度＞76MPa。有很高的机械强度，且随温度变化很小。刚硬性比尼龙、聚甲醛、聚碳酸酯高，而蠕变却最小。具有优良的耐酸、耐碱、耐沸水性。溶于二氯甲烷、二氯乙烷、氯仿、四氯化碳，不溶于乙醇、丙酮等。难燃，离火后自熄。
