又称二烷。为含两个氧杂原子的六元杂环化合物,分子式C4H8O2。1,4-二氧六环为可燃的液体;熔点11.8°C,沸点101°C(750毫米汞柱),相对密度1.0337(20/4°C);能溶于水和有机溶剂。它与醚类似,能形成过氧化物,在蒸馏时要用还原剂处理。它的蒸气对粘膜有刺激性。1,4-二氧六环可由乙二醇经硫酸脱水制备,它也是生产环氧乙烷时的间接产品:1,4-二氧六环是一个重要的溶剂,纤维素乙酸酯和许多树脂均能用它作溶剂。
