鞭毛菌亚门的一个小纲。仅1目、3科、6属,约16种。多在水中寄生于藻类、鞭毛菌和水生盘菌的子囊果上，或腐生于各种植物和昆虫的死体上。因为所有游动孢子前端单生茸鞭式鞭毛的真菌均属此纲，所以又称前毛菌纲。除鞭毛外，这一小群真菌的形态、结构和生活史都与壶菌纲相似，因而以往将它放在壶菌纲里。多数种的有性生殖不明，少数为同配生殖，在寄主体内形成休眠孢子囊。经济意义不明。代表种为托囊根前毛菌。
