X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis of high oriented pyrolytic graphite surface structural changes induced by Ar ion bombardment;

The results show that under 3-7 keV Ar+ ion bombardment, the compositions of both NiaAla and NiAl3 change greatly and the Ni concentration is much higher than the corresponding stoichiometric one.

Especially in the condi- tion of hollow cathode dischage, the ion bombardment enhances ionization of oxygen, promotes the oxygen permeation and facilitates the formation of the oxide of low valence states of Ti.

To make uniformly sized and spaced Ag clusters, the HOPG surface was modified by thermal oxidization and Ar~+ sputtering before Ag deposition, respectively.

By field experiments, the technique of infiltration of titanium, nitrogen and carbon by plasma bombardment has proved effective in treatment of some wearing parts in soda manufacturing equipment.
