产品生命周期论
产品生命周期论对新产品在国际贸易格局中的变化进行动态分析的理论。由美国经济学家R.弗能在《产品周期中的国际投资和国际贸易》(1966)一文中首先提出，L.T.威尔斯等人进行了补充和发展。该理论由技术差距理论演变而来。弗能将产品生命周期分为三个阶段:创新产品阶段、成熟产品阶段和标准化产品阶段。依照国际比较利益原则，产品随着其生命周期的演变而选择较具比较利益的国家去生产。然而，在生产区位改变和国际贸易发生的同时，技术也依此路径在国际间流动，并且，生产所用的资本，有边际报酬递减的现象。就长期而言，在某一时点后，技术投入的重要性会降低，即生产以节约技术的方式增长，故在产品生命周期的前期，对于技术的投资会增加，随生命循环的演变而递减。 产品生命周期论是动态的贸易理论，又是国际直接投资和跨国经营理论。它从动态上考察了比较优势的形成，研究了各种生产要素在不同状态下发挥的重要作用，并针对这种时间上的变化区别了产生贸易和投资的原因。在技术创新阶段，国际间的生产函数不同，须以技术差距来解释国际贸易的发生与贸易方向的决定;待创新产品到达成熟及大批量标准化生产阶段，国际间的生产函数相同，则根据赫克歇尔一俄林模型，以要素察赋来解释国际贸易的发生与贸易方向的决定。一般认为，产品生命周期论可用来解释部分工业品的国际贸易格局，解释世界性产业转移和结构调整的某些趋势，如将重工业、基础工业等“夕阳产业”从发达国家向发展中国家转移的空心化趋势。但产品生命周期论只以一个商品为考察对象，不适用于对整个国际贸易格局的变化作出科学的说明。而且，如果生产这些新产品的厂商是跨国公司的子公司，则它们不但可在东道国生产这种产品，占领东道国的市场和国际市场，并向母公司出口，使新产品的生产销售始终处于创新国的控制之下。
