三效催化器是同时可以降低CO、HC、NOX的催化转化器,主要由涂有贵金属铂(pt)、铑(Rh)、钯(pd)和其他一些催化剂的载体和壳体构成,另外还有垫层、隔热罩等部分。它只在发动机空燃比在理论空燃比附近时对CO、HC、NOX同时具有很高的转化效率,这需要对发动机的空燃比进行精确控制。三效催化器由于具有良好的转化性能,在汽车排气污染控制中得到广泛应用。
