In 2005,a kind of rich and thick Pb-Zn ores was found in the deep carbonaceous schist between the Zhongjian ditch and Duanceng ditch of the Xitieshan mine area,breaking through the only exploration idea of encircling the mable.
2005年,锡铁山矿区在中间沟-断层沟段深部(碳质)片岩中发现了厚富铅锌矿体,突破了以往仅围绕着大理岩找矿的思路。

青海省以铅锌矿闻名的山。位于大柴旦镇小柴旦湖之南。主要为震旦纪地层，中夹晚古生代花岗岩与花岗斑岩。最高峰海拔4037米，矿区海拔约3100～3500米。铅锌矿储量大，品位高、矿体集中，易开采，现已探明铅锌储量为270万吨。 锡铁山所产大理岩、钙质片岩与绢云母绿泥石片岩中，伴生有金、银、锡、锑、钼、铟、镓、镉等贵重金属。该矿清代已经采掘。1958～1973年，土法开采氧化矿达41万余吨。新建锡铁山铅锌厂，年采选矿石百万吨,除冶炼铅、锌外,并产数量可观的金、银与其他稀有金属。 石区位于锡铁山下， 有专用铁路线。
