| 弹涂鱼 Periophthalmidae；mudskipper 鲈形目弹涂鱼科鱼类的通称。有4属20余种，中国沿海产3属6种。体长一般为50～90毫米。体延长，亚圆筒形，稍侧扁。头大或中大。吻圆钝，吻褶发达。眼小或中大，突出于头的背面；下眼睑发达，游离。口中大；上下颌约等长；唇发达，软厚。下颌具牙，鳃孔小或中大。鳞小，或呈退化状。无侧线。背鳍2个，分离；臀鳍与第二背鳍相对，同形；胸鳍具一肌柄，用作陆上行动器官；左右腹鳍愈合成一吸盘，边缘完整或凹缺；尾鳍尖圆形，下方鳍条较短。为暖水性和暖温性近海小型鱼类。分布于热带、亚热带近岸浅水区，温带也有少数；非洲西岸、印度-西太平洋暖水区。喜栖息于底质为淤泥、泥沙的高潮区或半咸水的河口滩涂。常居穴洞，依靠胸鳍肌柄爬行跳动，退潮时在泥涂上觅食。视觉灵敏。主要摄食浮游动物、沙蚕、桡足类及枝角类等，也食底栖硅藻和蓝绿藻。一般春季产卵。有些学者将此科并入鰕虎鱼科。弹涂鱼是小型食用鱼类，肉味鲜美，营养价值较高。
