    茄尼醇学名为:3,7,11,15,19,23,27,31,35-九甲基-三十六烷-2,6,10,14,18,22,26,30,34-九烯-l-醇。 白色或微黄色结晶粉末,熔点33~42.5℃,溶于乙醚、丙酮、烃类等有机溶剂,不溶于水,无光学活性,茄尼醇是植物中普遍存在于叶子中的成分之一,烟叶、马铃薯叶和桑叶中含量突出,尤其是烟叶中茄尼醇高达0.3―3% 。天然产物为全反式异构体。它是辅酶Q10(治疗心脏病和保健药)和维生素K2的侧链。它本身具有抗菌、消炎和止血作用,同时也是合成维生素K2和辅酶Q10的主要原料。茄尼醇也是泛醌的中间体。目前世界许多发达国家已生产和应用的辅酶Q10 ,依赖高纯度的茄尼醇作为原料。
