建设中的大型煤炭基地。所辖煤田位于山东西南部,津浦铁路和兖(州)荷(泽)铁路穿越矿区。煤炭储量丰富,以低硫、低灰的气煤和肥煤为主,是优良的动力煤和炼焦配煤。该矿区系隐蔽煤田,1957年发现,1966年开始建设第一对矿井,1976年以后开始大规模建设。到1981年建成投产矿井4处,总设计能力525万吨。其中兴隆庄矿井是中国自己设计的年产300万吨大型矿井,建设工期只6.5年。年设计能力为300万吨的鲍店矿和 400万吨的东滩矿以及相应的配套工程,都正在加紧施工。根据规划到1990年原煤产量将达到1000万吨以上,到2000年将建成一个年设计能力2500万吨的大型煤炭基地。
