水平方向镦锻长棒料和管料的端部的锻压机械。平锻机具有 3种运动机构。①凸模（冲头）：在水平方向作往复运动，一般可设置4～6个模膛，是用于积聚、镦头、冲孔、翻边等镦锻工序的成形机构，也是主要施力机构。②活动凹模：能上、下向或横向开合，用以夹持长棒料，并承受端部镦锻力。③切断机构：用以将锻件从长棒料上分离。平锻机都采用曲柄滑块机构传动，由于加工工件大,镦锻力和夹紧力大,机器需要有足够的刚度,以保证平锻件的精度。根据凹模的分模面位置,平锻机可分为垂直分模和水平分模两类。常用的平锻机为垂直分模。水平分模的平锻机操作条件较好，易于实现自动化，但结构较复杂。平锻机的规格用公称工作力（锻打力）或可锻最大棒料直径表示。公称压力一般为3150～30000千牛，相应的最大可锻棒料直径为50～270毫米。
