| 河谷 river valley 河水所流经的带状延伸的凹地。河谷内包 括了各种类型的河谷地貌。从河谷横剖面看，可分为谷底和谷坡两部分。谷底包括河床、河漫滩；谷坡是河谷两侧的岸坡，常有河流阶地发育。谷坡与谷底的交界处称谷坡麓，谷坡与原始山坡或地面的交界处，称为谷肩或谷缘。从纵剖面看，上游河谷狭窄多瀑布，中游展宽，发育河漫滩、阶地，下游河床坡度较小，多形成曲流和汊河，河口形成三角洲或三角湾。河谷是在流水侵蚀作用下形成与发展的：水流携带泥沙侵蚀使河谷下切；水流的侧蚀使谷坡剥蚀后退，包括谷坡上的片蚀、沟蚀、块体崩落；溯源侵蚀使河谷向上延伸，加长河谷。3类侵蚀方式经常同时进行，只是不同时间、地段各有所不同。河谷的发育受到气候与构造的影响。一般河谷形态类型有：隘谷、峡谷、宽谷、复式河谷。与岩层产状关系可分为顺向河谷、次成谷、逆向谷、偶向谷。其他还有纵谷、横谷的地质构造分类，幼年谷、壮年谷、老年谷的侵蚀轮回分类，以及古河谷、谷中谷等。
