      化学成分为UO2.70~2.92、呈黑色土状的天然物质。晶质或非晶质。晶质铀黑的晶体结构与晶质铀矿的相同。铀黑的化学组成也与晶质铀矿基本相同,但UO3:UO2的比值高于晶质铀矿,并含较多的杂质混入物。一般认为铀黑是晶质铀矿中富含U6+的土状变种。通常呈粉末状、土状块集合体。黑、灰、浅棕等色,光泽暗淡。摩斯硬度1~4,比重2.8~4.8,硬度和比重都随成分中UO3:UO2比值的增大而减小。有两种不同成因的铀黑:残余铀黑是由晶质铀矿、沥青铀矿经不充分氧化而成的残留产物,可保持原来的矿物形态,产于原生铀矿床的氧化带和胶结带中;再生铀黑是由氧化带下渗溶液中的U6+在胶结带内部分还原,并沉淀而成,一般多为非晶质,在电子显微镜下显球粒状。铀黑是提取铀的原料。
