   沿海岸分布,由小于0.06毫米粉沙和粘土组成的长数十千米的平缓地带。属于一种海岸堆积地貌类型。主要受潮流影响。按地貌特性和出露部位分为:①潮上带。指平均大潮高潮线以上至特大潮汛或风暴潮作用上界之间的地带。常出露水面,蒸发作用强,地表呈龟裂现象,有暴风浪和流水痕迹,生长着稀疏的耐盐植物。该带常被围垦。②潮间带。指平均大潮低潮线至平均大潮高潮线之间的地带。此带周期性地受海水的淹没和出露,侵蚀、淤积变化复杂,滩面上有水流冲刷成的潮沟和浪蚀的坑洼。此带是发展海水养殖业的重要场所。③潮下带。指平均大潮低潮线以下的潮滩及其向海的延伸部分。此带水动力作用较强,沉积物粗。中国沿海地区每年接受来自黄河、长江、珠江等输出的泥沙达20多亿吨,潮滩广为发育。它分为两类:在河口三角洲基础上形成的潮滩,如江苏北部和渤海西部海岸;沿岸水流搬移泥沙在隐蔽海湾堆积成的潮滩,如杭州湾以南至闽江口以北海岸。
