    结构式为HOCH2CH2OCH3,分子量76.09。无色透明液体,有令人愉快的气味。相对密度(20℃/4℃)0.9646,凝固点-85.1℃,沸点124.6℃,闪点(开口)46.1℃,燃点288℃,折射率1.4021.粘度(20℃)1. 72mPa·s,表面张力31.82×10-3N/m。能溶于水、乙醇、乙醚、丙酮、甘油、二甲基甲酰胺。能溶解松香、虫胶、硝酸纤维索、聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯、聚醋酸乙烯等。易燃,蒸气能与空气形成爆炸性混合物。低毒,能引起贫血症(巨红细胞型),出现新生原粒性白血球和引起中枢神经系统障碍,LD502460mg/kg,空气中最高容许浓度80mg/m3(或0.0025%)。
    乙二醇单甲醚用作溶剂、稀释剂和增塑剂。溶解硝酸纤维素和醋酸纤维素,配制溶剂型胶粘剂。 贮存于阴凉、通风的库房内,远离火种、热源。
