| 江汉平原 位于中国湖北省中南部，两湖平原的北部。由长江、汉江冲积而成。面积3万多平方千米。大部分海拔50 米左右 ，地势由西北向东南倾降。成群的湖沼洼地多集中在平原东南部。长江在这里蜿蜒曲折，向称九曲回肠之处。汉江是长江最长大支流，长1532千米，出钟祥后，即分汊成放射状三角洲水系，形成以长江为边缘的汉江三角洲平原，是江汉平原的重要组成部分。汉水的冲积，长江主流被迫南迁，历史上至少南退3～4千米。平原深处内陆，土壤肥沃，产稻米，素称鱼米之乡 。又有武汉三镇 ，是中国经济的心脏区之一 。1949 年前常受洪水威胁，有“沙湖沔阳洲 ，十年九不收” 之谚，1949年后，修建荆江、杜家台等分洪工程，加固江堤，战胜洪水灾害。
