化学式HIO3。它比溴酸和氯酸稳定，可呈晶体状态存在。碘酸晶体密度为 4.629克/厘米3(0℃)；在110℃分解,同时有一部分脱水形成三碘酸HI3O8。碘酸加热至195℃，完全脱水成五氧化二碘。碘酸易溶于水,是一种强氧化剂。用浓硝酸或氯来氧化碘，可制得碘酸。碘酸可用于医疗，也可用作化学试剂。
