南源乡位于西北部，东邻乐安县，南依常阴镇，西连乐安县界，北与南城县界接壤。距县城84公里，总面积172.8平方公里，全乡总户数2619户，人口9358人，其中农业人口境内主要河流有黄水贯穿全境，长达16公里。境内属亚热带季风气候，四季分明，雨量充沛。年均气温17.1℃、１月均温5.2℃,7月份均温28.8℃。年降水量1582.4毫米，年无霜期264天左右。水力水电资源丰富，有水利工程266座，建成旱涝保收田面积14600亩，有水电站5座，装机容量630千瓦，年发电量260万度。全乡100%的农户用上了电。南源乡交通便利通讯迅捷。
