性质:成分中的硅可被铝取代达10%。层状结构,层间距随含水量的不同而改变。有1.4nm型的5CaO·6SiO2·9H2O,1.13nm型的5CaO·6SiO2·5H2O,0.93nm型的5CaO·6SiO2·H2O,还有1.26nm型和1.00nm型。属斜方晶系,有块状、纤维状、粒状或板状。密度2.2~2.7g/cm3。硬度2.5。正光性。二轴晶晶体折射率ng=1.575,nm=1.571,np=1.570。1.4nm型、1.13nm型和0.93nm型的托勃莫来石可用氧化钙和二氧化硅配比为5:6的石灰和硅胶混合物于60℃,110~140℃以及250~450℃水热合成。硅酸盐水泥净浆的水化物中,常温下出现与该矿物结构近似而结晶度较差的产物。
