【采集】
夏、秋采收根部，洗净。晒干，或鲜用。
【性味】
《草木便方》："凉。"
【功用主治】
祛风，清热，利湿。治偏正头痛。牙痛，喉痛，目赤肿痛，湿热黄疸，白带，白蚀。 ①《宁乡县志》："根：煮鸡子，可治齿痛。" ②《草木便方》："祛风毒，除风热，清利头目。治偏、正头痛，牙、喉痛，胸膈虚热。" ③《江西民间草药》："治湿热黄疸，小儿疳积，肚大青筋，目中起翳，咳嗽痰中带血，妇人产后寒热，尿血，湿热脚气。" ④《泉州本草》："治眉棱骨痛。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，鲜者1～2两。
【选方】
①治齿痛：路边荆根一至二两。水煎去渣，打鸭蛋二枚，同煎服。(《中医药实验研究》) ②治湿热黄疸：白马骨根一两，小金钱草(天胡荽)一两。水煎，二次分服。(《江西民间草药》) ③治肠风，脏毒便血：路边荆根一至二两。以猪大肠半斤炖汤，以汤煎药服。 ④治妇人白带：路边荆根一至二两。以猪精肉二、三两煎汤，以汤煎药服。 ⑤治白浊：路边荆根一至二两。米泔水煎服。(③方以下出《中医药实验研究》) ⑥治小儿疳积、肚大青筋、目中起翳：白马骨根五至七钱，猪肝二两。蒸汤，食肝及汤。 ⑦治咳嗽痰中带血：白马骨根-至二两，用瘦猪肉二两炖汤，以汤煎药服。 ⑧治历节风：白马骨根二至三两。用猪蹄-只煎汤，以汤煎药服。(⑥方以下出《江西民间草药》) ⑨治瘰疬：路边荆根一至二两。水煎服，每日一剂，久服有效。(《中医药实验研究》)
