    美国数学家。信息论创始人。1916年4月30日生于密歇根州盖洛德。1936年获密歇根大学理学士学位,1940年获麻省理工学院哲学博士学位。1941年起在美国贝尔电话实验室工作。1956年起任麻省理工学院教授。1938年首次使用“比特”概念;1948年发表《通信的数学理论》,提出负熵概念,1949年发表《噪声中的通信》,从而奠定了信息论的基础。1949年发表《保密系统的通信理论》,使他成为密码学的先驱。1956年与J.麦卡锡合编《自动机研究》(论文集),是自动机理论方面的重要文献。曾获电气和电子工程师学会(IEEE)的诺贝尔奖等多项世界性科学大奖。1956年当选美国科学院院士,并是多个学会的资深会员。
