（传说）佛教徒与道士比术而胜之也。后汉明帝永平十四年正月元旦，五岳诸山道士褚善信等朝贺之次，表请比较佛教与道教之优劣，帝许可之，于其月之十五日，自临幸白马寺，使佛典与道经共焚。道经归于灰烬，佛典其轴为火，纸为黄色，而一字无损，故谓之斗胜。
