| 人工岛 artificial island 在浅海水域中人工建造的陆地。大多数建于近岸海域，用作海上作业的场所，或用于建设海上公园等。古代的人工岛，有为盐业工人在大潮或风暴潮时避难而建筑的潮墩，有为渔民等候潮水、贮存淡水、整理渔具和躲避暴风雨的渔墩，也有为海防需要而建造的烟墩。现代的人工岛用途广泛，可建深水港、飞机场、大型电站、核电站、炼油厂、选矿厂 、冶炼厂、水产加工厂、纸厂、废品处理厂、水文气象观测站以及毒品或危险品仓库等。建筑人工岛的施工方法，有先抛填石块或混凝土块等之后护岸的，也有先围海后填沙土和构筑的。近岸的人工岛，大多有栈桥或海底隧道与岸相连。
