    分子式C6H6O3S分子量158.17。无色针状或片状晶体。含有1.5分子结晶水的苯磺酸易潮解,其熔点43~44℃。无水物的熔点50~51℃。是强酸,酸性近于硫酸,在分离和保存时常变为钠盐。加热会分解,易溶于水、乙醇,微溶于苯,不溶于乙醚和二硫化碳。与氢氧化钠混和加热熔融制取苯酚,也用来制取间苯二酚;用作酯化反应和脱水反应中的催化剂。可由苯与发烟硫酸发生磺化反应制备。
