   草食性家畜。哺乳纲奇蹄目马科马属。主供役用。体质结实,耐粗饲,使役年限长,易于饲养管理和驾驭。肉味鲜美,亦可肉用。中国内地的驴在汉代由西域传入,主要分布在新疆、甘肃、山西、陕西、河南、山东和河北。驴的生理、解剖和形态与马相似。其区别在于:驴的体格较小,头大、耳长,无鬃毛,鬣毛稀短。驴的品种类型因各地自然条件不同而有较大差异。中国有大型驴、中型驴和小型驴(毛驴)。驴的日常饲养管理基本与马相同,对饲料要求不严格。饲喂量按体格大小、使役轻重而定。
