    成分为K的卤化物(KCl)矿物。 制造钾肥和提取钾的主要原料。无色透明大晶体可用作光学材料。等轴晶系,单晶少见,呈立方体或立方体与八面体的聚形。通常成致密块状产出。纯净者为无色透明或白色,含杂质时可染成红、黄、蓝等色。具完全的立方体解理。莫氏硬度2,比重1.99。易溶于水,味道苦涩。分布远较石盐稀少。常与石膏一起产于含盐沉积岩层和现代沉积盆地中,少量见于火山口附近。主要产地有俄罗斯的乌拉尔,白俄罗斯,加拿大的萨斯喀彻温省 ,德国马格德堡和汉诺威 ,美国新墨西哥州特拉华盆地。青海为中国钾盐最大产地,云南亦有产出。
