The laser flash method has become a widely accepted method for measuring thermal diffusivities of various materials over a wide range of temperatures.

A series of triplet diphenylcarbenes having substituents at the para - or ortho - positions have been generated by photolysis of the corresponding diphenyldiazomethanes at room temperature and their reactivities have been studied by laser flash photolysis technique, which revealed interesting substituent effects on the stabilities as well as the reactivity toward oxygen.
