将石蜡加热后作为温热介质，传导热于人体的患部，以达到治疗疾病的一种方法。医用石蜡应选熔点为52～56℃的石蜡，石蜡的热容量大，导热系数小，不产生热对流，加热后的石蜡有良好的可塑性，黏滞性和延展性。主要治疗作用包括温热作用，机械压迫作用。
