中和寺位于大理古城西中和峰半山腰松林中,因位于中和峰而得名。它初建于明代,为道教宫观,在滇西享有盛名。寺南有石如门,两岩对峙,小溪从中湍湍流出,称为“双石门”。寺后有泉水从石上流出,取名“流泉峰”。康熙皇帝玄烨为寺题了“滇云拱极”的匾额。
寺由聚仙楼、灵宫殿、玉皇阁等殿宇组成。聚仙楼前悬挂有清人周仙书写的木刻长联:“巍巍十九峰前,蒙颠段蹶,依旧河山,最难忘郑回残碑,阿南烈炬,状元写韵,倚御游踪,世变几兴亡,往事都随流水去;遥遥百二里内,关锁塔标,无边风月,况更有苍岭积雪,洱河奔涛,玉带睛云,金极烟岛,楼高一眺览,此身疑在画图中。”
每年农历正月初九日是玉皇大帝圣诞,当地白族群众都要在寺中办会,俗名松花会,赶庙会的群众云集寺中,热闹非常。
