聚苯硫醚是由对二氯苯与硫化钠反应制得。结构式为数均分子量为10000-50000。白色或朱黄色粉末。结晶度高，硬而脆，相对密度1．362。熔点275-290℃，玻璃化温度l50℃，700 ℃开始分解，热变形温度＞260℃，在400 ℃的空气或氮气中稳定，长期使用温度250 ℃。耐化学腐蚀性优异，对无机酸、碱、盐、有机酸、酯、酮、酯、醇、酚、脂肪烃、芳香烃、氯代烃等稳定。溶于氯代联苯，在170℃以下不溶于绝大多数溶剂。耐紫外线和60Co射线良好。
