大黄素 emodin 一种羟基蒽醌(见蒽醌)的衍生物。分子式C15H10O5。广泛存在于大黄的根茎、鼠李的树皮和根皮、决明的种子中。橙色针状晶体,熔点256~257℃;不溶于水,能溶于乙醇,稍溶于乙醚、氯仿、苯,溶于苛性碱水溶液、碳酸钠溶液或氨溶液中显樱红色。大黄素有泻下活性,由于在体内易被氧化,实际泻下作用很弱,如与糖结合成苷类,则可发挥泻下作用。大黄素除游离存在外,尚以还原状态(如蒽酚、蒽酮的衍生物)或与糖结合成苷类存在。例如,在新鲜植物中发现的大黄素蒽酚或大黄素蒽酮(熔点250~258℃),都是大黄素的还原产物,如经长时间贮存,往往被氧化成蒽醌类。大黄素-1-O-β-D-葡萄糖苷的熔点为189~190℃;大黄素-8-O-β-D-葡萄糖苷的熔点为239~241℃,二者都是大黄素与葡萄糖结合的苷,同时存在于大黄中。前者也是虎杖中有抑菌作用的活性成分之一。
