常快，最初主要是在机器、电器制造，仪器仪表制造，兵器、船舰等领域，由于其成效极其显著，现已扩展到各种高精度的测试技术装备的制造，通讯设备、电视技术装备和计算机硬件、软件，集成电路、超大规棋集成电路，汽车、海洋平台、宇宙飞船，模块化电子战系统、棋块化工程、模块化教育系统等等。 模块化的技术经济意义①产品由模块组合而成，产品的派生和更新换代，可通过增减或更换模块的方式实现，这是“以不变应万变，以少变求多变”的开发策略;②新产品开发实际上就是集中力t研制新模块，代替系统中功能落后的模块，产品开发周期短、成本低，性能高、可靠性好;③模块化设计是以最少的要素组合最多产品的方法，它能最大限度地减少不必要的重复，又能最大限度地重复利用标准化成果(模块、标准元件);④产品维修或更新换代，都可通过增减或更换模块的方法实现，对生产方有利、对用户有利，不仅方便而且经济、可靠;⑤模块化产品的可分解性，模块的兼容性、互换性和可回收再利用等，均属“绿色产品”的特征。(李春田)了系列化和组合化的特点，解决复杂系统多样化的一种方法。标准化的一种新形式。 模块化一词的广泛应用是从20世纪80年代初开始的(在苏联和美国的军事工业中可能还要早些)。模块化产生的社会经济背景是，在产品需求的多样性和多变性，技术更新的周期短、应用快，产品结构、功能复杂化，制造技术柔性化的形势下，要求产品更新换代快，设计制造周期短，产品可靠性、继承性好，成本低、售后服务好。为了适应这种客观要求，在系列化、组合化的蓦础上创造了以子系统或功能单元构成复杂系统为目的的标准化新形式—模块化。 模块的特征①模块是完整的功能单元，具备独有的功能;②模块是可以独立制造的产品;③模块可由元器件或单元组合，可以是标准的或系列化的;④模块是产品系统的功能单元;⑤模块通过接口与产品系统可分、可合。 模块的种类可粗略划分为:①通用模块—通用化程度高、应用面广、可成系列研制，设计时可直接选用;②专用模块—为某种产品和用途所专用，一般孺要单独研制;③特别模块—根据系统要求特殊设计的。
