　（行事）阿难尊者夜见饿鬼，名焰口（不空译焰口，实叉难陀译面然）。鬼请阿难施一斛食。阿难还白佛，佛说施饿鬼食之法。又名斛食法。使一切道俗修之。比丘每日生饭，亦施饿鬼之法也。佛说救拔焰口饿鬼陀罗尼经曰：“阿难独居，静处夜三更，有饿鬼现前，名焰口。形丑陋，口中吐火。白阿难曰：却后三日汝命尽，将生饿鬼中。阿难畏问免之方便。饿鬼曰：汝明日对无数饿鬼与无数婆罗门仙等施摩伽陀国一斛，并为我供养三宝，以此功力汝延寿，且我亦免饿鬼苦。阿难以言于佛，佛为说陀罗尼曰：诵此陀罗尼施食，一一饿鬼当得摩伽陀国七斛食，汝今受持此法，福德寿命皆增长。”释门正统四曰：“若夫施食之法。又非一切人天所知。惟如来以大慈普覆，不忍一切含灵受其饥饿苦恼。故假面然鬼王缘起，令阿难尊者以一搏食诵咒施之。今缁素通行谓之施饿鬼食。”
