【化学成分】
由钢铁飞炼而成者，主要含四氧化三铁；由生铁打碎而成者，主要含金属铁，及少量的C、P、Si等杂质。
【炮制】
《本草求真》："(铁粉)煅赤，醋沃七次用。"
【性味】
①《开宝本草》："味咸，平，无毒。" ②《本草求真》："气辛，性平。"
【归经】
《本草求真》："入肝。"
【功用主治】
平肝，镇心。治惊痫，发狂，脚气冲心，疔疮。 《开宝本草》："安心神，坚骨髓，润肌肤。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，0.5～1两；或入散剂。外用：调敷。
【宜忌】
①《医学入门》："畏磁石、石炭。" ②《本草求真》："畏皂荚。"
【选方】
①治惊痫发热：铁粉，水调少许服之。(《圣惠方》) ②治小儿身体壮热，急惊搐搦，涎潮壅塞，闷乱不醒：朱砂一钱(别研)，铁粉二钱(别研)，腻粉半钱(别研)。上药同研令匀。半岁儿每服一字，一岁儿服半钱，煎薄荷汤调下，不拘时候。(《杨氏家藏方》朱砂铁粉散) ③治伤寒阳毒，狂言妄语乱走，毒气在脏：铁粉二两，龙胆草一两(为末)。磨刀水调服一钱，小儿五分。(《全幼心鉴》) ④治头痛鼻塞，头目不利：铁粉一两，龙脑半分。上药细研令匀。每于食后。以新汲水调下半钱。(《圣惠方》) ⑤治疔疮：铁粉一两，蔓青根三两。捣如泥封之，日二换。(《集玄方》) ⑥治风热脱肛：铁粉研，同白蔹末敷上，按入。(《仁斋直指方》)
