Buddha's Birth Day

   纪念佛教创始人释迦牟尼诞生的佛教仪式节日。又称佛诞节。是从求福灭罪的一种宗教要求传衍而来。中国东汉时仅限于寺院举行,到两晋南北朝时流传至民间。浴佛时间在史籍中有不同记载。蒙藏地区以四月十五日为佛诞日,即佛成道日、佛涅槃日,故在这天举行浴佛仪式。汉地佛教在北朝时多在四月八日举行,后不断变更、发展,北方改在十二月八日(腊八)举行 ,南方则仍为四月八日举行 ,相沿至今(俗称“四月八”)。傣族的泼水节在傣历六月(夏历四月)举行,清晨,男女老幼沐浴更衣,到佛寺赕佛,就带有浴佛的性质。
